The Walt Disney Company, Florida , Disney Files Lawsuit Against Ron DeSantis

.

DISNEY had fun Wednesday against Florida Gov. Ron Disney and his select Central Florida Tourism Supervisory District Commission.

.

Disney has asked federal courts to intervene and order that DeSantis stop fining companies that claim to protect free speech under the Constitution.

.

The news came shortly after the board passed a resolution invalidating Disney's last-minute agreement that allowed it to retain control of the company's long-held special tax zone.

.

Disney said in a complaint obtained by Yahoo Finance that the government's actions are "clearly retaliatory, clearly anti-corporate and clearly unconstitutional."

.

Disney is asking the district court to intervene, order the contract to stand and declare DeSantis' action constitutionally illegal and unenforceable.

.

Disney is asking DeSantis to block a court order preventing him from implementing Senate Bill 4C and House Bill 9B, which would dissolve all special tax districts established before November 1968.

.

Disney hopes the situation can be handled differently. But Disney also knows it's lucky to have the resources to deal with state retaliation.

Disney finds itself in the unfortunate position of expressing a view that the governor and his allies don't like," Wednesday's complaint said.

In 2022, then-Disney CEO Bob Chapek denounced the law at the company's annual shareholder meeting after initially choosing not to speak publicly about the matter.

.

That decision sparked a political firestorm that continues to this day, with current Disney CEO Bob Iger defending the company's actions.
